RESUMO

The authors propose a comprehensive approach to laboratory diagnosis of seasonal transmissible infections, based on modern methods permitting etiological deciphering of disease. A universal diagnostic algorithm notably accelerated the laboratory diagnosis due to cutting the period between collection of material from a patient and consecutive screening for antibodies to agents of tick-borne encephalitis, Lyme disease, and California encephalitis.

RESUMO

The results are available of typing red blood cells (ABO, Rh, MN) and HLA antigens (locus A, B) as well as haptoglobulin in 118 cases of pyosepsis. The occurrence of some HLA-antigens and of haptoglobulin types was specified for an overall group of patients, staphylococcal and pseudomonas sepsis, vital infection patients. Distribution of the above immunogenetic markers in separate nosological variants of pyoseptic infection has been analyzed.

RESUMO

A uniform program of the epidemiological supervision of poliomyelitis must be worked out for every administrative territorial unit. This program should include the early and complete detection of all cases of this infection, irrespective of their severity; the analysis of the quality of vaccination; the determination of the immune status of the child population; the characteristic of the poliovirus circulation.

RESUMO

The etiology of acute infectious diseases accompanied by uveitis in young children has been studied. In these investigations a high degree of contamination with virus ECHO 19 in patients with acute diseases accompanied by uveitis has been revealed and the ophthal motropic properties of the virus have been experimentally established, which indicates that certain variants of virus ECHO 19 play, probably, some role in the etiology of uveitis in young children.

RESUMO

The aim of this work was to study the state of immunity in children immunized with liquid poliomyelitis vaccine. During 1976-1981 the intensity of immunity to poliomyelitis in 653 children aged 1-3 years was studied. The study showed that at the period when liquid poliomyelitis vaccine was used the share immune to polioviruses, types 1 and 2, constituted 89.4% and 98.0%, respectively, as compared with 67.0% and 68.0% at the period when sugar-coated live dried poliomyelitis vaccine was administered. Changes in such epidemiological characteristics, as the percentage of persons with antibodies to poliovirus, were particularly essential in the age group of 1-2 years. In 1979 persons with antibodies to type 1 poliovirus constituted 94.0% as compared with 44.0% in 1976, while the percentage of persons found to be seronegative in respect of antibodies to polioviruses, types 1, 2 and 3, decreased 5-7 times. The quality of immunization carried out at the period, when liquid poliomyelitis vaccine was used, was shown to influence the size of the immune share, while having no effect on the geometric mean of the titer of antibodies to polioviruses.

RESUMO

The epidemiological and clinico-etiological study of cases of acute serous meningitis with unknown etiology in children was carried out in a large industrial city at the period of a considerable morbidity rise caused by this infection. The maximum morbidity was registered among younger children under school age attending children's institutions. In 26 closed groups of children group morbidity was revealed (4 cases and more), in 5 such groups small local outbreaks were registered. The clinico-instrumental methods of study permitted one to differentiate the groups of children having serous meningitis of supposedly enteroviral etiology, and sero virological studies carried out with the use of a wide range of diagnostic reagents revealed the etiological role of group B Coxsackie virus, mainly type 4, in 20.6% of cases, ECHO virus, serotypes 3 and 11, in 20.7% of cases, and parotitis virus in 5.3% of cases.

RESUMO

The results of prolonged dynamic observations on the state of herd immunity against poliomyelitis virus in an industrial city are given. The survey covered 1304 children. The data thus obtained, when synchronized according to years, seasons, the age of the surveyed children and the methods used in the survey, indicated that in every age group 20-30% of children had no antibodies to group I poliomyelitis virus and 30% of children had no antibodies to group III poliomyelitis virus. The geometrical mean of antibody titers to different types of the virus fluctuated from 1.8 to 4.6 log2, the lowest value being obtained for the titer of antibodies to type III poliomyelitis virus. During the whole period of immunological control (1974-1978) no mass circulation of poliomyelitis virus and no outbreaks of poliomyelitis were registered despite the fact that a considerable proportion of children having no antibodies to one or several types of the virus was constantly present among the most susceptible part of children.

RESUMO

An account of the findings resulting from the study of experimental poliomyelitis in M. rhesus after several immunizations with Sabin live vaccine is given. The challenge of the vaccinated monkeys with the virulent strain of poliomyelitis virus, type I, was shown to result in the development of a disease with clinical and morphological characteristics typical of poliomyelitis in some of these monkeys. The incidence of the infection was found to decrease with the growth of antibody level in the blood of the monkeys. The virus was isolated from the tissues of the vaccinated animals showing the symptoms of the disease less frequently than from the tissues of the control animals.
